Development Engineer

A position is available for an experienced Automotive or Mechanical Engineer to join the enthusiastic and dynamic engineering team at Caterham Cars. This job will expose the successful applicant to a wide and varied range of vehicle development aspects. The role will be reporting directly to the engineering manager. You will be working as part of a team however you will be required to manage your own projects and guiding others within this as required.

The role will involve designing of new automotive parts, developing existing parts and products through prototyping, creating & modifying BOM and into production. There will also be a requirement to problem solve on-going production, current engineering & development challenges. You will be required to liaise with and project-manage suppliers involved in external production.

As part of this role out of hours travel may be required both inside and outside the UK in order to visit agents, suppliers, provide support at test days & race weekends.

Essential criteria:

• BEng in Automotive or Mechanical engineering
• Self-motivation
• Relevant extra-curricular interest
• All round vehicle engineering experience
• The ability to produce and read technical drawings
• Current experience with Solidworks CAD system
• Competency in using Microsoft Office
• Flexibility and willingness to work extra hours and weekends when required
• A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
• Good diagnostics ability
• 4-5 years relevant work experience
• Design experience for fabrication, lazer cutting, machining
• Experience with engine and electrical harness development
• A good understanding of the Motorsport industry
• Strong technical knowledge capable of taking responsibility for vehicle development
• Experience of design control systems

• Catia V5 experience of benefit
• Race licence – regular track experience
